Historically, from the late Victorian era (1837-1901) to the Edwardian era (1901-1910) in England, and during the "Belle Epoque" era in France, craftsmanship was at its technical pinnacle, and aristocrats had their personal artisan make a variety of daily necessities, without regard to cost. They enjoyed a culture that valued refined quality and craftsmanship.

 This devotion to precision has always captured my curiosity. While working for a long-established maker in Japan, I conducted extensive research on the leather products made in the late 19th century into the early 20th century. Subsequently, I worked for a luxury maker to acquire and perfect traditional techniques used in France.

 Such research and training culminated in my Nowell line of products. These embellishments will add subtle elegance and polish to any ensemble., each model is studded with a universal essence that transcends time and international borders.

THIN AND DELICATE CONSTRUCTION THAT BRINGS TOGETHER OLD WORLD CRAFTSMANSHIP WITH MODERN SIMPLICITY

This is characterized by thin and delicate construction which is greatly influenced by leather products from the late 19th and early 20th century. My fascination with the quality and design of dress shoes for men was one of the reasons I got into this industry. I am also very influenced by vintage dress shoes.

 Small leather products from the late 19th and early 20th century often had decorative designs with many curved lines. Elegance was valued above all else. Each part was very thinly and delicately cut and sewn with fine threads. In terms of materials, along with exotic leathers, calf leather with its fine fibers was considered the most elegant material. This is still true today, even in dress shoes.

 From the point of view of robustness, thicker leather such as from adult cows, thicker threads and less stitch spacing are better for durability. For example, just imagine leather mountaineering boots and dress shoes.

 In order to make my products as durable as possible, even though they are delicately made, I pursued various techniques that are unique to small leather craftsmanship. I brought these techniques together in both visible and invisible parts of my products. Delicate stitches that cannot be done using a hand-sewing technique which is typical for general leather products, are carefully sewn by a unique and ingenious sewing machine using a fine needle. In addition, although it is thin, a special technique* is used to allow air to be contained between the outer leather of the product and the lining leather that accompanies it. This technique creates a plump, presence-inspiring look.

Calf leather. It has a finer and more supple feel than that of adult cattle.
Finished by anilines dyes that are used to give a transparent finish to the material. Each color is dyed by color samples brought directly to the tanneries.

In addition to stitch customization, the made-to-order service allows you to pick custom materials and colors based on existing product designs. I’m also open to bespoke projects and commissions to help you create a unique product based on your original design. Feel free to contact me using the contact form.

BESPOKE

If you would like to have an original design, I can create a product using your desired style, size, materials, etc. Regarding exotic leathers, I will also arrange for materials that are not in stock as much as possible upon request. Depending on your design, there are materials that might not be suitable and cannot be used.

MADE TO ORDER

If you like an existing product design, you can request that product to be made to order with different materials and stitch colors. For exotic leathers, it is also possible to combine multiple different materials or different colors of the same material.
I can also arrange materials that are not in stock, but depending on the model, there are materials that might not be suitable and cannot be used.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

I select and use leather that has a natural texture. As a result, blood lines, wrinkles associated with the joints that animals originally have, and countless scars that the animals have sustained appear on the surface.

 I try to avoid scratches as much as possible when cutting parts, but depending on the size of the parts, it may not be possible to avoid them completely.
